In the Absence of Pink: Knebworth 85
In the Absence of Pink is a live album capturing Deep Purple at Knebworth on Saturday 22 June 1985. It was recorded by BBC Radio and marked the reunited Mk II line-up's first UK show since reforming in 1984. The set was broadcast on BBC Radio 1 the following Saturday as part of an all-night programme, Knebworth Through The Night, which ran from 10pm until 4am and also featured several of the festival's supporting acts.
The album came out on 29 July 1991 as a double CD on Connoisseur Collection. It sits between Perfect Strangers (1984) and The House of Blue Light (1987), so it shows the band in the first flush of their return. For anyone who wants to hear how that comeback sounded in front of a British festival crowd, it is a useful document.
