Made in Europe
Made in Europe is Deep Purple's third live album, released in 1976 on Purple Records. It was recorded on the final dates of April 1975, just before Ritchie Blackmore left the group, and it appeared in November 1976, after the band had broken up. The title nods to 1972's Made in Japan, and the idea was clearly to repeat that record's success. It didn't sell as well, though.
For anyone who follows the band's story, it works as a snapshot of the last stretch of a line-up that was about to come apart. It sits in the hard rock and heavy metal camp where Deep Purple made their name, and it captures them on stage as that chapter closed. It's a worthwhile companion to the studio albums from the period, particularly if you like your Purple played live.
