The Song Remains the Same
The Song Remains the Same is the soundtrack to Led Zeppelin's concert film of the same name, and it captures the band on stage. The recordings come from three nights, 27 to 29 July 1973, and the album came out on Swan Song, the band's own label.
It sits between Physical Graffiti in 1975 and Presence in 1976, so it arrived as a live document of the band at the point the Houses of the Holy material was fresh. For anyone who never saw Zeppelin in the flesh, it is a good way to hear how they stretched their songs out in concert. Released in October 1976 (the US and UK/Europe dates are given as 28 September), it works as both a companion to the film and a standalone live record.
