Presence

Presence was Led Zeppelin's seventh studio album, released on 31 March 1976 through the band's own label, Swan Song. It was made in the last months of 1975, while Robert Plant was recovering from serious injuries after a car accident. With tours cancelled, the band booked studio time instead and finished the record in a few weeks, Jimmy Page putting in long shifts to complete the recording and mixing.

It sounds different from its siblings: no keyboards, very little acoustic guitar, and songs written largely by Page and Plant, with just one credited to the whole band. Critics were mixed at first, and it remains their lowest seller, though it still topped both the British and American charts and went triple-platinum in the US. Later reviewers have warmed to its hard rock dynamics and stripped-back simplicity. Hipgnosis supplied the sleeve, built around a mysterious black "Object".
