Album
Accelerate
Accelerate is R.E.M.'s fourteenth studio album, released in March 2008 on Warner Bros. Records. Made with producer Jacknife Lee, it was meant as a clear step away from 2004's Around the Sun. The band tried out most of the songs during a five-night run at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin, then recorded the album over nine weeks.
It was widely welcomed as a return to form, earning a score of 79/100 on Metacritic. Reviewers praised the aggressive, purposeful sound of the songs, and Q's Keith Cameron said it was "the sound of a band having enjoyed a good word with themselves—and us." It was also the last R.E.M. album to be followed by a tour, since the band chose not to tour for Collapse into Now, their final record before they split.
