Ghosts I–IV
Ghosts I–IV is the sixth studio album by Nine Inch Nails, released on 2 March 2008 through the band's own label, The Null Corporation. It was their first independent release after leaving Interscope Records in 2007. Trent Reznor made it with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder, with contributions from Alessandro Cortini, Adrian Belew and Brian Viglione. Conceived as a five-track EP, it grew into four nine-track volumes, 36 pieces in all, almost entirely instrumental and named only by number.
Reznor called it "a soundtrack for daydreams", and critics heard echoes of Brian Eno and Robert Fripp. It appeared without prior announcement, in several packages, including a $300 deluxe edition, under a Creative Commons licence. It reached number 14 in the US and earned two Grammy nominations. Ghosts V: Together and Ghosts VI: Locusts followed in 2020.
