Hesitation Marks
Hesitation Marks is the eighth studio album from Nine Inch Nails, released on 30 August 2013 through Trent Reznor's own label, The Null Corporation, with Columbia handling distribution in the United States and Polydor elsewhere. It was the band's first record in five years, following The Slip in 2008, and their only one for Columbia. Reznor produced it with longtime collaborators Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder, the last Nine Inch Nails album to involve Moulder as co-producer.
The title refers to the tentative cuts made when testing a blade before self-harm, which gives the record a dark undertone. Critics welcomed the new sound, and several heard it as a natural step on from the band's earlier work. Singles included "Came Back Haunted", "Copy of a" and "Everything". It reached number three in the US, their best placing since Year Zero, and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.
