Quake
Quake is the soundtrack to id Software's 1996 video game of the same name, written by Trent Reznor and credited to Nine Inch Nails. It came out on 22 June 1996, pressed on the same disc as the game itself, and sits between The Downward Spiral and The Fragile in the band's story. Reznor also created the game's sound effects, so much of what players heard came from him.
The music is dark ambient and industrial, closer to atmosphere than to song. For years it was only available by owning the game, until a vinyl release in September 2020 gave it a life of its own. It is a curious corner of the Nine Inch Nails catalogue, and worth hearing for fans who like Reznor at his most textural.
