Odelay
Odelay is Beck's fifth studio album, released on 18 June 1996. It follows the run of records that began with Golden Feelings in 1993 and includes Mellow Gold and One Foot in the Grave, both from 1994. It was the album that brought his restless, genre-hopping approach to a much wider audience.
The record blends alternative rock, electronic textures, downtempo, neo-psychedelia and a thread of contemporary folk. It produced the singles "Where It's At", "Devils Haircut" and "The New Pollution", and reached number sixteen on the Billboard 200. In the United States it sold 2.3 million copies by July 2008, making it his biggest seller. Critics have praised it warmly, and it turns up regularly on lists of the best albums of the 1990s. Mutations followed in 1998.
