Golden Feelings
Golden Feelings is Beck's debut studio album, put out in 1993 on the Sonic Enemy label. It arrived before the records that would bring him wider attention, and it finds him rooted in the anti-folk scene, where rough edges and home-made charm counted for more than polish.
The sound is a blend of rock, blues and alternative rock, recorded in a lo-fi, field-recording style. That makes it a useful starting point for anyone curious about how Beck began, well before Mellow Gold and Odelay. It's worth hearing as a snapshot of an artist still finding his feet, with the raw, scruffy textures that shaped his earliest work.
