Guero
Guero is Beck's ninth studio album, released on 29 March 2005 on Interscope Records. It arrived after the hushed, downbeat Sea Change, and it moves back towards the sample-heavy, genre-hopping approach of his mid-nineties work. That is no accident: John King and Mike Simpson of the Dust Brothers, who worked with him on Odelay in 1996, produced it alongside Tony Hoffer.
The record mixes alternative rock with folk, country and dance influences, and its singles were "E-Pro", "Girl" and "Hell Yes". It debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, which remains his highest chart placing, and critics received it warmly. It's a good one to reach for if you love Odelay and want to hear him revisit that restless, playful style a few years on.
