Album
Hypnotize
Hypnotize is the fifth studio album by System of a Down, the American heavy metal band whose catalogue also includes their self-titled debut, Toxicity and Steal This Album! It arrived on 22 November 2005 on American Recordings, and it works as the second half of a pairing with Mezmerize, which had come out six months earlier.
The two records were released as companions, and both went straight to number 1 on the Billboard 200. That made System of a Down one of only four acts at the time, alongside the Beatles, 2Pac and DMX, to have two chart-topping albums in the same year. Critics responded warmly, singling out the songwriting for praise. If you want the full picture of where the band's avant-garde streak landed in the mid-2000s, play this alongside Mezmerize.
