Album
Rosenrot
Rosenrot is Rammstein's fifth studio album, released in October 2005 on Universal Music. It follows Reise, Reise, and in a sense it grew out of that record: six of its songs were written for the earlier album but left off it. The working title was Reise, Reise Volume Two, until the band announced the name Rosenrot ("Rose-Red") in August 2005. The cover is a slightly altered photograph of the icebreaker USS Atka at McMurdo Station in Antarctica, taken in 1960.
The band kept promotion low-key but still built a sense of occasion. "Benzin" was the first single, premiering at the Berliner Wuhlheide, and the official website offered one-minute samples of six tracks alongside a release-date countdown. Sitting between industrial metal and Neue Deutsche Härte, it makes a natural companion piece to Reise, Reise, and it had shipped a million copies worldwide by February 2006.
