Around the Fur
Around the Fur is the second studio album by Deftones, the American alternative metal band, released on 28 October 1997 through Maverick. It followed their 1995 debut, Adrenaline, and came before White Pony in 2000, so it sits at an early point in the band's story, when they were still sharpening the sound that would make them stand apart from their nu metal contemporaries.
Two songs were released as singles with music videos: "My Own Summer (Shove It)" and "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)". They are the obvious places to start if you're new to the record. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA in 1999 and Platinum in 2011, a slow but steady rise that suggests listeners kept coming back to it long after release. For anyone tracing how Deftones became the band they are, it's an essential stop.
