A‐Sides
A-Sides is a compilation from the American band Soundgarden, gathering songs from across their thirteen-year career. It came out on 4 November 1997 through A&M Records, the label behind their studio albums.
It arrived after Down on the Upside in 1996, the last studio record of their first run, and works as a tidy summary of that stretch. The band's story began with Ultramega OK in 1988 and ran through Louder Than Love, Badmotorfinger and Superunknown, so the collection gives newcomers a single place to hear how their grunge and alternative metal sound developed. For longtime fans, it is a handy way to follow the whole arc in one sitting.
