Cast in Stone is Venom's ninth studio album, released on 11 November 1997 through Steamhammer. It was recorded at Lartington Hall Studios near Barnard Castle, and it marked the first time in twelve years that the band's original line-up had made a record together. It also turned out to be the last Venom album with Abaddon behind the drum kit.

The album sits between The Waste Lands in 1992 and Resurrection in 2000, and it blends black, heavy and thrash metal. Cronos was keen to give it a production feel similar to Motörhead's 1995 album Sacrifice, and Howard Benson, who was then working with Motörhead, was originally in talks to produce. As had happened on the two previous records, he proved unavailable. For anyone following the band from their early days, it is worth hearing as the point where the founding trio were back together.
