Sehnsucht
Sehnsucht, whose title means "Desire" or "Longing", is Rammstein's second studio album, following Herzeleid in 1995. It came out on 22 August 1997 through Motor Music in Europe and Slash Records in the United States. The Berlin-born sound the band is known for, Neue Deutsche Härte, sits at its heart, with industrial and alternative metal edges.
It went to No. 1 in both Germany and Austria, and it remains the only album sung entirely in German to be certified platinum by the RIAA in the US. That is a rare feat for a record that never switches to English. Metal Hammer later placed it among the top ten albums of 1997, a good reminder of how strong that year was. Mutter followed in 2001.
