Singles 1-12
Singles 1-12 gathers a year's worth of Melvins 7-inch releases onto one record. During 1996 the band put out a single every month on Amphetamine Reptile Records, each pressed in a run of just 800 copies worldwide. This compilation, released on 26 August 1997 on the same label, collects all twelve, so a set that was scarce on vinyl became easy to hear in one go.
It sits between Stag and Honky in the band's run of albums, and it shows the Melvins in a restless, experimental mood, with grunge, sludge metal and plain rock all in the mix. A single-a-month project suits a band this prolific, and it makes a good way in for anyone who wants the Melvins in short, sharp bursts rather than album-length. A handmade digipak edition limited to 50 copies was sold at a run of three shows at Club Spaceland in January.
