Album
The Maggot
The Maggot is the tenth studio album by Melvins, released on 17 May 1999 through Ipecac Recordings. It arrived after Honky in 1997 and opened a three-part run that continued with The Bootlicker and The Crybaby, so it makes sense to hear it as the first chapter of a larger story rather than a record standing alone.
The three albums were later gathered on vinyl by Ipecac as The Trilogy Vinyl, issued on 27 November 2000. On the CD version of The Maggot, every song is divided into two tracks, a quirk worth knowing if you're browsing the track listing. A 2006 reissue swapped its background artwork with that of The Bootlicker. For anyone following the band through their long, restless catalogue, this is where the trilogy begins.
