Joe Preston
Joe Preston is a 1992 EP from Joe Preston, who was then the Melvins' bassist, issued on Boner Records on 31 July 1992. It is an instrumental record, though it is intermixed with several voice samples. Preston is credited with vocals, and the other two names in the credits appear to be pseudonyms, so it is most likely a one-man effort. One of them, "Denial Fiend", nods to the credits of Hellhammer's Apocalyptic Raids EP.
It belongs to a small run of Melvins solo EPs, alongside those by King Buzzo and Dale Crover, all styled after the 1978 KISS solo albums. Preston's sleeve parodies Ace Frehley's record, and a credit for Marina Sirtis as "Counselor" winks at Star Trek: The Next Generation. Buzz Osborne has called it one of his least favourite Melvins releases, but it remains a curious sludge metal footnote for completists.
