Melvins
This is where Melvins first appeared on record: a self-titled debut EP on C/Z Records, released in 1986. It came out as a vinyl 7" and is usually known as Six Songs. The band went on to release a long run of studio albums, beginning with Gluey Porch Treatments in 1987, and this short record sits at the very start of that story. Its sound is filed under doom metal, sludge metal and rock.
The EP was later reissued in expanded form. A 1991 edition called 10 Songs, drawn from an earlier recording session, appeared on CD, alongside a 12" vinyl version titled 8 Songs that omits the last two tracks from the CD. For anyone tracing the band's heavy, slow-burning sound back to its roots, this is the place to begin.
