Chicken Switch
Chicken Switch is a remix album built from the Melvins' back catalogue, released on 29 September 2009 on Ipecac Recordings. The remixers were noise and experimental artists, and the approach was unusual. Rather than handing each one a single song to rework, the project gave each of them a whole album to draw from. Some used more than one record as their raw material, and each picked their own title for the finished piece.
It sits as a sideways step in a discography otherwise made up of studio albums, from Gluey Porch Treatments in 1987 to Nude With Boots in 2008, with The Bride Screamed Murder following in 2010. It is worth hearing if you know the sludge metal originals and want to see how far outside artists can pull them apart and rebuild them into something new.
