London 1966/1967
London 1966/1967 is a short Pink Floyd release built around two tracks from the band's earliest days: an extended version of "Interstellar Overdrive" and "Nick's Boogie", which had not been released before. Both were recorded in 1967 for Peter Whitehead's film Tonite Let's All Make Love in London. An edited "Interstellar Overdrive" had already appeared on that film's soundtrack album. The EP came out in 1994 on See for Miles Records.
It sits just before The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, the band's first studio album, in 1967. For a long time these were the earliest Pink Floyd recordings you could buy. The jazz-influenced improvisation running through the psychedelic writing is what makes them worth hearing, and the EP is regarded as an early example of jazz fusion. It is a useful companion for anyone curious about the band before the big concept albums.
