Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd
Echoes: The Best of Pink Floyd is a compilation from the English rock band, their fourth, released on 5 November 2001 by EMI. Capitol Records issued it in the United States a day later. It gathers the band's work under a banner of rock, psychedelic rock, art rock, progressive rock and space rock, which neatly sums up how far they travelled.
It arrived long after the band's run of studio albums had begun with The Piper at the Gates of Dawn in 1967 and carried on through The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall, up to The Division Bell in 1994. In the US it entered the Billboard 200 at No. 2 and stayed on the chart for 26 weeks, going on to reach quadruple platinum. For anyone wanting a single route into the band's story, it makes a sensible place to begin.
