Take Off Your Pants and Jacket
Take Off Your Pants and Jacket is blink-182's fourth studio album, released on 12 June 2001 by MCA Records. It followed Enema of the State, the multiplatinum breakthrough that had taken the San Diego trio into the mainstream, and they stayed with producer Jerry Finn, recording most of it in their hometown. The title is a cheeky double entendre, though the band were keen at the time to shed their silly image and present themselves more maturely.
Musically it stays loyal to their polished pop-punk, with crowd-pleasing anthems about the prom, fighting authority and teenage parties. Listen closely and you'll catch post-hardcore tones and emo touches widening the palette, a sign of a band pulling in different directions and feeling the pressure of label deadlines. It still became the first punk album to reach number one in the US, spawning "The Rock Show", "Stay Together for the Kids" and "First Date". A Pop Disaster Tour with Green Day followed.
