NINE
NINE is blink-182's eighth studio album, released on 20 September 2019 through Columbia, their first record for the label after their time with BMG. It followed California and was made with John Feldmann back in the producer's chair, alongside Captain Cuts, the Futuristics and Tim Pagnotta, plus outside songwriters.
It's the second and last album with Matt Skiba before Tom DeLonge returned in 2022. The band still count it as their ninth, by treating the 1994 demo Buddha as their first. The pop-punk core is spiked with hip hop-style programming and electronics, and the lyrics are darker than usual, shaped by world events and Mark Hoppus's struggle with depression. RISK, a graffiti artist, painted the colour-wash cover. "I Really Wish I Hated You" is the single to start with. It reached the top five on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart, and the album itself debuted at number three on the Billboard 200.
