Album
Hyperspace
Hyperspace is Beck's fourteenth studio album, released on 22 November 2019 through Capitol Records. It arrived after his divorce from Marissa Ribisi earlier that year, and its themes reflect that: heartbreak, sincerity and solitude. Recording began in late 2018, with Pharrell Williams producing and singing on several tracks. Chris Martin, Sky Ferreira, Terrell Hines, Alex Lilly and Roger Joseph Manning Jr. also lend vocals.
The sound leans towards synth-pop with a vaporwave tint, though Beck still wanders across other genres. The cover shows him in front of an A60 Toyota Celica, with the title in blocky Japanese script. Reviews were generally positive, though some found it a little superficial next to his earlier work. It earned two Grammy nominations, and Beck won Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. A visual album, Hyperspace: A.I. Exploration, followed in August 2020 with two new songs.
