Album
Morning Phase
Morning Phase is Beck's twelfth studio album, a folk rock record released on 21 February 2014 through Capitol Records, his new label at the time. It was presented as a companion piece to Sea Change, his 2002 album, and the link goes beyond mood: almost every musician who played on that earlier record came back for this one. The only notable absence was Nigel Godrich, who had produced Sea Change.
It arrived after Modern Guilt in 2008 and marks a return to the calmer, more reflective side of his work. Critics responded warmly, and the album was nominated for five awards at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, winning three: Album of the Year, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and Best Rock Album. At the ceremony Beck performed "Heart Is a Drum" with Chris Martin. It's a good one for listeners who love Sea Change and want to hear that world revisited.
