Album
.5: The Gray Chapter
.5: The Gray Chapter is Slipknot's fifth studio album, released in October 2014 on Roadrunner Records. It arrived six years after All Hope Is Gone and was the band's first record without bassist Paul Gray, who died in 2010 and whose surname gives the title its nod, or drummer Joey Jordison, who was fired in late 2013. Alessandro Venturella joined on bass and Jay Weinberg on drums, while Donnie Steele also appears on bass.
The record sits at a turning point in the Slipknot story, a band regrouping after loss and upheaval. It draws on alternative metal, nu metal and groove metal, and it spawned six singles. "The Negative One" earned a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance, and the following year the album was nominated for Best Rock Album, with "Custer" nominated for Best Metal Performance. It was also the last Slipknot studio album to feature percussionist Chris Fehn.
