Album
Serpents of the Light
Serpents of the Light is the fourth studio album by the American death metal band Deicide, released on 21 October 1997 through Roadrunner Records. It followed Once Upon the Cross in 1995 and came before Insineratehymn in 2000, placing it in the middle of the band's early run of records.
Glen Benton has said the title track was written about a friend of his who had died, which gives that song a personal side that sits alongside the band's more usual subject matter. For anyone tracing Deicide's story through the 1990s, it is the record that comes between their first three albums and the new decade, and it's worth hearing as part of that progression.
