Deicide
Deicide's self-titled debut arrived in June 1990 on Roadracer Records, the first of a run of studio albums that stretches all the way to Banished by Sin in 2024. It gathers every track from the Florida band's demos and adds two new songs, "Deicide" and "Mephistopheles", so it works as both a first statement and a tidy summing-up of their early work.
It was recorded at Morrisound Studios in Tampa with Scott Burns producing, in the Florida death metal heartland. The vocals are the first thing that hits you, a tortured, truly vile roar, while the lyrics dwell on Satanism and blasphemy. Beneath that, the riffs are what stay with you, and it's why many fans count this among the classic death metal albums.
