Album
Foo Fighters
Foo Fighters' self-titled debut came out on 26 June 1995 in the UK and Europe, with the US release following on 4 July. Dave Grohl, formerly Nirvana's drummer, wrote every song and recorded the album in six days in October 1994 at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle, working with producer Barrett Jones. He made it for fun, and described it as a cathartic way of recovering from the death of Kurt Cobain.
Grohl first handed out cassettes under the Foo Fighters name to hide his involvement. When labels started to take notice, he signed with Capitol and put together a band to play the songs live. The record leans towards more traditional rock than grunge usually did, and is regarded as having established post-grunge. It earned warm reviews for its songwriting and performances, and reached the top five in the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
