On the Wings of a Russian Foxbat: Live in California 1976
On the Wings of a Russian Foxbat is a live album drawn from a Deep Purple show at Long Beach Arena in California on 27 February 1976. The performance was originally broadcast on the King Biscuit Flower Hour, and the recording came out on King Biscuit Flower Hour Records on 19 June 1995. It has also appeared under the title King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents: Deep Purple in Concert.
The concert captures the Mark IV line-up, with Tommy Bolin in the band. That makes it a snapshot of the period around Come Taste the Band, the 1975 studio album that came before the group's long break and their return with Perfect Strangers in 1984. For anyone curious about how this short-lived version of the band sounded on stage, it is a useful place to start.
