Long Tall Sally

Long Tall Sally is The Beatles' fifth UK EP, released by Parlophone on 19 June 1964 in mono. It was the first of their British EPs to gather songs that hadn't already appeared on a UK album or single, so it gave fans at home something genuinely new. Robert Freeman took the cover photograph.

Three of the four tracks are covers: the title song, "Slow Down" and "Matchbox". The fourth, "I Call Your Name", is a Lennon-McCartney original that had first gone to Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, who put it on the B-side of their number 1 hit "Bad to Me". Hearing the Beatles take it on themselves is part of the appeal. In 1988 all four songs were collected on Past Masters, Volume One, but the EP remains the neat original home for them in Britain.
