The Beatles Ballads
The Beatles Ballads is a compilation that gathers the band's slower songs into a single collection. It came out on 20 October 1980 on Odeon. It was issued in the UK, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, Spain, India, Japan, South Korea and Australia, but not in the United States. Brazil got its own LP and cassette pressing in 1985 on EMI-Odeon, with the same front and back artwork.
It did best in Australia, where it spent seven weeks at number one, and it reached number 17 in the UK. The cover painting is by "Patrick" (John Byrne). People often assume it was meant for The White Album, but it was actually created for Alan Aldridge's The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics. The album has never had an official CD release, so it remains a vinyl and cassette curiosity.
