In Italy
The Beatles in Italy is a 1965 compilation released by Parlophone for the Italian market. Despite the title, it isn't a live record. It gathers studio recordings already out on singles and EPs, none of which had yet appeared together on an LP. It was timed to catch the band's Italian dates in Milan, Rome and Genoa between 24 and 27 June 1965, and the arrival of the film Help!. Ticket to Ride is on it, a month before it turned up on the Help! LP. Original copies were mono, and the Italian edition came in a gatefold sleeve.
It did reasonably well for Parlophone, and EMI's Israeli arm issued it too, minus the gatefold. Most fans elsewhere never knew about it until John Lennon, in a 1970 Rolling Stone interview, wondered aloud about a live album recorded in Italy. Collectors kept hunting imports, and Japan and the Netherlands eventually pressed stereo editions in the mid-1980s. It has never come out on CD.
