No. 1
The Beatles (No. 1) is an EP that Parlophone put out in the UK on 1 November 1963. It was the band's third British EP, and it came out in mono only, carrying the catalogue number GEP 8883. It also found its way to Argentina and New Zealand.
The songs are all drawn from Please Please Me, so this is a compact way into the group's debut album as it was heard at the time. The sleeve comes from the same photoshoot that gave us the covers of Please Please Me and 1962–1966, which makes it a close relation to those better-known pictures. It's a small piece of the band's early story, best suited to anyone who likes the format of the period or wants to see how the first album was repackaged.
