Songs of a Lost World
Songs of a Lost World is the fourteenth studio album by The Cure, released on 1 November 2024 through Polydor and a handful of other labels. It ended a gap of sixteen years since 4:13 Dream in 2008. Robert Smith wrote every song alone, something that hadn't happened on a Cure record since The Head on the Door in 1985, and it is the first studio album to feature guitarist Reeves Gabrels. Smith asked for it to come out the day after Halloween, which suits the mood.
The reception was warm, with praise for the lyrics, the dark sound and Smith's vocals. It gave the band their first UK number one since Wish in 1992, and topped the charts in a long list of European countries, including Germany, France and the Netherlands. "Alone" and the album itself both won Grammys in 2026. For anyone who loves the band's gothic side, it is a welcome return.
