Bloodflowers is the eleventh studio album by the Cure, following Wild Mood Swings in 1996 and arriving before the self-titled record of 2004. It came out on 2 February 2000, first appearing in Japan, with UK and European release following on 14 February and the US the day after. The band had finished it by May 1999, but the label preferred to hold it back until the fuss around the millennium had died down.

Robert Smith decided against putting out any singles, over the label's objections. He has described this as a form of revenge for the lack of promotion given to the compilation Galore in 1997. Radio stations in several countries still received "Maybe Someday" and "Out of This World" as promotional releases. The album sits comfortably within the band's gothic rock, dream pop and alternative rock leanings, and is worth hearing as the Cure's first record of a new century.
