Twist and Shout
Twist and Shout was the Beatles' second album to appear in Canada, issued in mono by Capitol Records on 3 February 1964 (catalogue number T-6054). It drew mostly on songs from Please Please Me, their first LP in the United Kingdom, so it works as a Canadian route into that early material.
Like its parent record, it mixes original Beatles songs with covers, and the cover that gives the album its name, "Twist and Shout", leads the way. It's a handy snapshot of a band balancing its own writing with favourites from outside, and worth hearing if you like seeing how the Beatles' first records were repackaged for different markets in 1964.
