Let It Be… Naked
Let It Be… Naked is an alternative take on the Beatles' 1970 album Let It Be, released on 17 November 2003 by Apple Records. The project came from Paul McCartney, who felt Phil Spector's production on the original had missed the stripped-down, live-to-tape spirit the band were aiming for.
The new mixes strip out the snippets of studio chatter and most of Spector's embellishments, leaving the songs sounding bare and direct. Two tracks from the 1970 running order, "Dig It" and "Maggie Mae", are dropped, and "Don't Let Me Down", originally the B-side of the "Get Back" single, takes their place. It's a fascinating companion for anyone who knows the original well and wants to hear how the same material sounds with the band's own vision at the front.
