Album
The Long Road
The Long Road is Nickelback's fourth studio album, released in 2003 through Roadrunner Records. It follows Silver Side Up and comes just before All the Right Reasons in the band's run of records. The Canadian group recorded it at Greenhouse Studios in Vancouver, and it turned out to be the last album with Ryan Vikedal behind the kit.
The record also marks the start of a working partnership with Joey Moi. He had engineered Silver Side Up, and here he steps up as producer, a role he kept for the next three albums. The sound shifts towards heavier ground, with more aggressive guitar riffs and double bass drumming added to the mix. If you know Nickelback mainly for their melodic, radio-friendly side, this is where the harder edge starts to show, sitting somewhere between post-grunge and alternative metal.
