Album
Shogun
Shogun is the fourth studio album by American heavy metal band Trivium, released in September 2008 on Roadrunner Records. It follows Ember to Inferno, Ascendancy and The Crusade, and it arrived as the band went looking for fresh ideas. Rather than working with Jason Suecof again, they brought in producer Nick Raskulinecz, with work beginning in October 2007.
It also marks the end of an era in the line-up, as the last Trivium release to feature original drummer Travis Smith. Rooted in heavy and thrash metal, it is the record that Bryan Rolli of Loudwire named the band's best in 2025, which makes it a fine place to start if you want to hear where Trivium stood at the close of the 2000s.
