The Slip is the seventh studio album by Nine Inch Nails, arriving in 2008 just two months after Ghosts I–IV. Trent Reznor produced it with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder. It began life as an EP before growing into a full-length record, and the whole thing was recorded in three weeks. Reznor called the results "garage electronics".

Like its predecessor, it was offered free through the band's website under a Creative Commons licence, with a limited physical edition on The Null Corporation label following later. "Discipline", the only single, went to radio stations less than a day after Moulder had mastered it. Critics praised the production and the unusual way it was released, and it reached number 13 on the Billboard 200.
