The Sin and the Sentence
The Sin and the Sentence is the eighth studio album from American heavy metal band Trivium, released on 20 October 2017 through Roadrunner Records. Josh Wilbur produced it, and it blends metalcore, progressive metal and thrash metal. It followed Silence in the Snow from 2015 and came before What the Dead Men Say in 2020.
It marks a few changes for the band. Alex Bent made his first appearance on a Trivium record, taking over the drum stool from Paul Wandtke. Matt Heafy's screaming vocals also returned here, having been absent for a time after a vocal cord injury. Critics responded warmly, and "Betrayer" was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards in 2019. It's a good place to hear the band's harsher side restored alongside their melodic instincts.
