Album
Lick It Up
Lick It Up is the eleventh studio album by American rock band Kiss, released in September 1983. It arrived at a turning point for the group. Before it came out, the members appeared on MTV without their trademark make-up, the first time they had shown their faces in public that way. It also marked a change of home, as it was their first record for Mercury Records after they left Casablanca Records.
It follows Creatures of the Night from 1982 and comes before Animalize in 1984, so it sits at the start of Kiss's unmasked years. The hard rock and heavy metal sound is the draw here, along with the sense of a band reinventing itself in public. The album went on to be certified platinum by the RIAA in the US by December 1990, for sales of over a million copies.
