Double Platinum
Double Platinum was Kiss's first greatest hits collection, released on 2 April 1978 by Casablanca Record and FilmWorks. It arrived after the run of studio albums from their 1974 debut through to Love Gun in 1977, and gathered the band's hard rock material from that stretch into one set.
What makes it more interesting than a standard best-of is how much the songs were reworked. "Strutter" was re-recorded with a light disco beat and retitled "Strutter '78". "Hard Luck Woman" and "Detroit Rock City" had sections cut out, while "Black Diamond" now repeats its opening at the close, fading out as the first verse begins, so the song seems to loop back on itself. Japan also got a single of "Strutter '78" in a faster, shorter version with an altered guitar solo and a more prominent hi-hat. Fans who know the originals well will enjoy spotting the differences.
