Four by the Beatles

Four by the Beatles is a four-song EP that Capitol Records put out in the United States on 11 May 1964. It was the second of three Beatles EPs released there, and the first of the two issued by Capitol. The songs on it had already found their way into the US in large numbers as Canadian singles, so the EP gathered together tracks that American fans were already hunting down.

It arrived in the middle of 1964, the year the band's records poured out across a run of American albums, and it sits as a small side note to those fuller releases. It is worth knowing for its place in the story of how the Beatles reached American ears, and for the fact that it climbed to No. 92 on the Billboard Hot 100, a notable showing for an EP of rock and roll.
