Phoenix Rising
Phoenix Rising is a combined CD and DVD live release from the Mark IV line-up of Deep Purple, the short-lived version of the band that followed Come Taste the Band in 1975. It came out in May 2011 on earMUSIC and gathers rare live tracks from that period of the group's history.
The DVD is the real draw. It features Rises Over Japan, a 30-minute concert film directed by Tony Klinger, along with Gettin' Tighter, a new 80-minute documentary about the band's 1975/1976 tour. A handful of extras round things off. For anyone curious about a chapter of Purple's story that often gets overlooked, it offers both the music and the context in one package.
