Total Abandon: Australia '99 is a double live album from Deep Purple, recorded at Melbourne Park in Melbourne on 20 April 1999. It followed their 1998 studio album Abandon, and its title nods to that record. It came out on 12 October 1999, and was first sold in Australia, with mail-order copies reaching Europe. Music shops stocked it later. American listeners had to wait until 2012 for a single-disc edition.
It was also filmed, and the video became a big seller down under: the DVD went platinum in Australia, making it the band's most successful video release there. Australian fans also got two novelty singles, "Smoke on the Water" on a disc shaped like the continent and "Black Night" on one cut in the form of the band's logo. A good pick for hearing Purple's hard rock and heavy metal in concert.
